CANTERBURY
TRAILS

We’re firm believers that a good feed is the key to running ultramarathons, so our pit stops at all of our ultras have become known for being rather special and extremely tasty! Check out what’ll be waiting for you at each of the stops…


‘Pit Stop’
is the name for a service area where the event organisers, support vehicles, and runners all meet up. Pit Stops are the ONLY places where runners are allowed to take external support from friends & family. This is both part of the ethos of the challenge and a measure to prevent excess traffic mixing with runners on the route.

At this event we will operate 2 major pit stops per day stage where participants showing their number can access food, water, toilets and medical provision. Between these pit stops we will also feature checkpoints with further water and sweets provision. At our main pit stops, we will have the minimum of the following choices of food and drink:

 

Water – Ensure you leave with water bottles and bladders filled so you have enough to get you to the next Pit Stop.
Sports Ration Pit Stop Bars – Yummy flapjacks.
Salty snacks – such as crisps and peanuts.

A fruit option – Either oranges or bananas.
Sweets – such as Haribo and Skittles.
A variety of sandwiches, pastries and cakes.
Hot drinks will be provided at selected Pit Stops subject to forecast weather conditions.

 

Our Pit Stops are there to help supplement any personal sports nutrition plan you may have. If you have any special dietary requirements then please plan for this and pack your kit accordingly. Rat Race aim to offer Pit Stop snacks that are tasty and functional for as broad a mix of needs as possible. We have options available that are suitable for vegetarian and vegans and availability of this will depend on demand. If peanuts are served these will be in individual portioned bags to reduce the chance of contamination but Rat Race cannot guarantee that the food does not contain contamination from allergens such as nuts or gluten in its preparation or serving. Please take care when consuming food with dirty hands. Please please please take care with litter and help us in our aim of leaving our venues and routes tidier then we find them.

Day 1: Pit Stop 1 (circa 14 miles)

OVERNIGHT LOCATION, ROCHESTER (circa 35 miles)
Hot soup to welcome all finishers. Full paid-for catering menu available.

Day 2 Pit Stop 3 (circa 47 miles)

Day 2 Pit Stop 4 (circa 57 miles)
Water, squash, Sports RATions ISO Energy drink, tea, coffee, bovril, hot chocolate, Sports RATions Pit Stop Bars, scampi fries, pork scratchings, hot soup & roll, crisps, biscuits, bananas, sweets, chocolate, cake, nuts, quiche, pork pies, corned beef pie, sausage rolls, shandy!

FINISH (circa 67 miles)
You’re now in the centre of Canterbury: Beer and food abound!

CHECKPOINTS

‘Checkpoints’ are in addition to Pit Stops and act as enhanced marshal points that enable us to check you through or you can alert the marshal if you are in difficulty.

Checkpoints are deliberately discrete and we ask that drivers/support DO NOT attempt to reach these locations. No external support is allowable at checkpoints. Checkpoints are just to grab a quick drink and a handful of sweets. Water is available by the cup and this is NOT the spot to refill bottles or hydration bladders.

Southwark, Central London to Shooter’s Hill, South London (Pit Stop 1).

DAY 1 LEG TWO

Shooter’s Hill, South London to Gravesend (Pit Stop 2).

DAY 1 LEG THREE

35 miles (56km)
Gravesend to Rochester (Overnight location and finish of Day 1)

DAY 2 LEG FOUR

46 miles (74km)
Rochester to Otterham Quay (Day 2 Pit Stop 3).

DAY 2 LEG FIVE

57 miles (92km)
Otterham Quay to Oare (Day 2 Pit Stop 4).

DAY 2 LEG SIX

67 miles (108km)
Oare to Canterbury. (Finish).

CAMPING

The route splits at the 33* mile point at Rochester. At this point, we will have tented accommodation available to book at our overnight hub with facilities including hot showers, our famous Beerstalker food and beer tent, phone charging, massage, bag transfer and supporter parking.
